Erin Giles, RM

My name is Erin Giles and I am a Registered Midwife through the College of Midwives of Alberta. I have been providing midwifery care since 2002. I can’t imagine my life without midwifery, it’s definielty not just a career but a way of life. A opportunity to give back, to have purpose and of course to provide the best care I can. Midwifery is always teaching, challenging and growing me. Every family is unique and has different goals, I care to understand each client personally.

Midwifery is a passion I hold due to the profound impact I have seen it make in countless families. It has shaped me as a person and enhanced my life individually as well as professionally. Having the opportunity to bear witness and hold space for families throughout such an important season of their lives is a privilege. I have witnessed thousands of births and I still feel a sense of awe fill my soul at each birth I attend.

Midwifery has enabled me to teach students, work internationally, collaborate with other valued medical professionals, while supporting thousands of families and most recently, leading Grassland Midwifery. All these experiences have impacted the midwife I am in positive ways enabling me to provide experienced, compassionate midwifery care.

When I’m not attending clients, I love spending time with my family, collecting eggs, gardening, farming, and anything outside. :)

I’m grateful for this work and the ability it gives me to be a part of profound moments with each family I serve.

My name is Brielle Pedersen-Skene,

My journey to midwifery began when I was four years old, after witnessing my brother’s birth at home with the help of midwives. That moment planted the seed for what has grown into my lifelong passion.

I was born and raised in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, and in 2021, I moved to Alberta to pursue the Bachelor of Midwifery program at Mount Royal University. Through my clinical experiences across southern Alberta, I discovered a love for rural midwifery, which led me to make Medicine Hat home.

I am passionate about advocacy and creating safe, inclusive spaces where clients feel empowered and supported in making informed choices throughout their care. I am grateful to be a part of the team at Grassland Midwifery, and I am eager to contribute  to the community through my passion for Midwifery.

Outside of midwifery, I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether paddleboarding, walking local trails, or travelling to explore new places.
